Magazine Spread Reboot

This magazine spread combines a structured layout and illustration to create an engaging page. The underlying three-by-nine grid provides lots of variety in placement. The illustration across the entire spread activates both pages and unites the text and illustration. The more traditional serif typeface used in the title and subtitle contrasts with the loose watercolor-like illustration. The selected colors are subtle yet engaging and catch the reader's attention. The placement of the thought bubbles guides your eyes across the spread, and the illustrations pair together to match the question and response presented in this article. This design is representative of new techniques of combining typography with illustration.

Sketches

Both layout sketches had strong features and both ideas were combined to create the final spread.
