US City Branding
The rebranding of the small midwestern town of Pella, Iowa, displays the enthralling features that draw people to this town. The inspiration for this project stems from the town’s Dutch Heritage and historical charm. The logo, brand guideline, brochure, and stationery package all have a cohesive design to encapsulate the traditional yet stylistic features of Pella. The abstract logo is designed to portray the main feature of this town, which is the large windmill, giving a subtle representation of it with the four blade-like shapes. The brochure has a structured layout with an underlying grid. The hand-illustrated map on page four gives a closer look at downtown Pella and adds a playful aspect to the design, merging the town's character and events. All components of this project tie together to create a traditional, lighthearted, and hometown feel for the rebranding of the city of Pella, Iowa.
Research
Pella, Iowa is located just southeast of Des Moines and is home to a population of about 10,800 people. This town has many features such as the Tulip Festival, the Vermeer Windmill, and the Historical Village. After much research, many of these attractions were contributors when deciding on a city.
