Ceramics: Coil Building
This ceramic sculpture is a large closed-form piece made from hand-rolled coils. The primary objective of this assignment was to create a closed-form piece stemming from the theme of vital matter. This piece is a tall stoneware sculpture standing at a height of 24”. It encapsulates the theme by its large size and engrossing shape. At its height, this piece is meant to convey continuation and create a lasting impression on the viewer. The entire piece is built from hand-rolled coils, scored, and pressed together to create a hollow form. The shape of this sculpture is purely abstract, taking the form of whatever a viewer chooses for interpretation.

Glazing
For this project, I wanted to create something large that would catch the eye of a viewer. The building of this took many classes as I meticulously rolled each coil and scored and pressed them down to be molded together. My glazing method came from the idea that I was extremely diligent with the building of the structure and wanted something in contrast. I also wanted to experiment with glazes and layering.
